255 - The impossible Promise

A poor man was seriously sick. Seeing that the doctors might not save him, he went to the gods, promising to give them a hecatomb and to dedicate multiple votive offerings if he was managing to recover.

He was heard by his wife, who was accompanying him and asked:

"And from where will you extract so much money to cover all that?"

"And do you believe that the gods are going to claim it to me if I was recovering?" - the patient responded.

Never do promises that in advance you already know that it will be impossible to fulfill them.
